Outotec acquires 3D-imaging technology

Outotec, the world’s leading minerals and metals processing technology company, is to acquire Numcore, an innovative developer and supplier of online process control technology based on 3D-imaging.

Numcore has designed a number of high-tech systems for optimising the processes used in minerals processing, food manufacturing, and the pulp and paper industry. Numcore's technology is already proven in flotation and thickener applications, where Outotec has a strong position, having supplied the minerals processing industry with more than 4,000 flotation units and 1,400 thickeners over the last 20 years.

Numcore's Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) technology is also ideal for new flotation cells and thickeners, and increases metals recovery by optimising froth flotation and overall production efficiency and reliability.

Going big in sulphuric acid

In other recent news, Outotec recently won a contract from Zambia's Kansanshi Mining valued at more than EUR 80 million to build the world's largest metallurgical sulphuric acid plant, together with a gas cleaning system, downstream of Kansanshi’s new copper smelter in Solwezi.

The acid plant will process off-gas from the copper smelter, and the acid produced will be used for leaching.

Outotec will be responsible for basic and detail engineering, procurement, and the supply of proprietary equipment for the gas cleaning system and acid plant; and will provide advisory services related to construction and commissioning. Environmental standards set by the World Bank will serve as the benchmark for the project.
