The market for emission control technologies is growing rapidly, largely as a result of ever-tougher legislation, driven by concerns about the environment generally and by worries about greenhouse gases and the impact of climate change in particular.
Stage IIIB requirements in Europe and Tier 4 Interim requirements in the US, for example, will require off-road machinery to be fitted with emission aftertreatment systems in the near future. In cities, the introduction of low-emission zones will highlight the widespread need to retrofit older vehicles with modern emission control systems, while at sea the International Maritime Organisation’s Tier 3 directive, due to come into force in 2016, will bring selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology to ships.
Particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) are the most toxic emissions released by diesel engines, and are Proventia’s prime focus of attention. Particulate matter is directly linked to health issues such as asthma, lung cancer, and cardiovascular conditions; it has been estimated that some 300,000 people in Europe die prematurely every year as a result of these conditions. NOx, for its part, is linked to smog, acid rain, and marine eutrophication.

An impressive track record
Based on over 10 years of experience built up by Finnkatalyt in Finland and ENWA in Switzerland, Proventia offers solutions for a wide range of engines, machinery, and power plants, either on an OEM basis or via retrofit solutions, from design to end-product.

On-road and off-road
As older vehicles are commonly the worst polluters, retrofitting cars, pick-ups, trucks, buses, and construction machinery with modern emission-control solutions is an excellent way of improving air quality.

A Proventia partial diesel particulate filter (pDPF) can cut the particulate content of emissions by up to 50% at very reasonable cost. ‘Fit and forget’ pDPF solutions fall in between DOC (Diesel Oxidation Catalyst) and DPF technology, and offer higher particulate reduction compared to DOC and an enhanced maintenance-free, sulphur-tolerant, robust design capable of coping with a wider variety of conditions than DPF.
For even better PM reduction performance, Proventia’s full diesel particulate filter (DPF) technologies can cut these types of emissions by more than 90%.

At sea and in power plants
Surprising as it might seem, even modern vessels and smaller power plants, such as industrial and utility boilers and gas turbines, still often lack advanced exhaust gas treatment systems.
Proventia provides solutions for power plants and ships powered by a variety of fuels, such as oil, natural gas, and liquid and solid biofuels. The NOxBUSTER™ Intelligent SCR System enables NOx emissions to be reduced by more than 90%, thanks to highly advanced automation, soot blowing, urea injection, and user-friendly self-diagnostics. Optional oxidation catalysts and particulate filters can reduce carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions by over 80%, and particulate emissions by over 95%.
The Proventia NOxBUSTER™ is a fully customised solution and can be fitted to both new applications and systems already in use, cutting emissions and noise levels without any impact on engine performance. This is particularly useful on board ships and in rail locomotives, where space is limited.
